Removing unknown glue

The previous owner used some kind of glue on the back of the velcro pads to make them stick better, but they pulled off anyways, and now there is this kind of yellowish hard glue left.

I taped a paper towel over it covered in Goo Gone (citrus oil), which is usually good at removing glue, but this stuff seems impervious so far.

I also tried WD-40, which works a treat on undried enamel, but it did nothing here. Next up was CLR, which has muriatic acid in it, but that wouldn't touch it either.

I am sure there is something available to just spray and wipe it off. Any ideas?

I could try a blow dryer, maybe I can melt it.

The glue is on the back of seats, so white gelcoat.

Probably what we call Kwik Grip in Australia

Kwik Grip can be a little tricky to remove once it dries on a surface, when it is wet Mineral Turps works particularly well to remove the product. Once dry the only way is through scraping and sanding.Apr 27, 2015

Re: Removing unknown glue

I used DeBond Adhesive Remover to remove shrinkwrap tape residue off gelcoat recently. Be sure to use it in open air. The fumes were terrible under my winter cover and I had to stop.

Mineral spirits works really well. Soak a rag in it, hold the rag on it for a little while, and then it should rub right off. With a little elbow grease. And mineral spirits it safe enough for just about every surface.
