Repair the rudder ..here my adventure!

Repair the rudder of my Marieholm 26.
Works are still going on.. but I made a big mistakes .. :
1)the wrong mixing of epoxy resin and hardener (The resin didn't work!!)
2)type of approach to fix the problem....doesn't work!!
So I clean the epoxy mess and start again with correct works and material.
Many thanks to Mr.Marco owner of Cecchi resin for his support and advise ..he explain me the correct way to approach the problem.

Re: Repair the rudder ..here my adventure!

I watched and enjoyed these! I felt I was missing some context though - how did you know your rudder had issues, and what was wrong with it other than the two rusted bolts?

You also found rust in the iron plate in the middle (is it really iron and not stainless steel?) but I didn't understand why you had to cut off two concave sections on each side and then rebuild with fiberglass cloth. The rust didn't look too bad, were you concerned that the core was compromised and the rudder might break in half?

After that.. Try to fix the problem dry the rudder all the winter and put some epoxy putty on the small cut on the back... But after a whilethe rust come out again No way! So I decided this year to make a investigation.. I Take off the original bolts I noticed that at the top of them there was an hole and after year and year water penetration make the problem.
Speaking with many m26 owners get same problem and with the original owner of Marieholm bruck factory he explain me type of material they made the rudder.
The concave shape I used is the same principle when you close an hole in your boat hull... You can't put only a fiber cloth and rain at the top of the hole but you must create a big bevel around to permit the resin and cloth to re create the original thickness and best adhesion of the new material.
The pvc also I used help me to avoid to add much weight and didn't work well..and the layers made in this way small to big create a effect like the crossbow .." flexible"and strength.
This part of the m26 or if boat rudder is the most fragile. ( off course after 30 years the project pay well!!!')
