Re: Replacement Rudder Cable Advice

Well thank you all for the replies, I am trying to source dyneema, but so far in Panama have only found 6mm Galvanized cable, which will do until I find dyneema or inox.

Of course I can order, but I am trying to source this locally, simply because I am here...

A word of warning: do not use “dyneema”. Use original Samson Amsteel Blue which isn’t just the real Dyneema (note the capital letter D as in the product from the inventors, DSM) but also has the Samthane coating. These two factors can make the difference of 15 years lifespan in the case of Amsteel Blue to a couple days lifespan in the case of a knockoff. There are too many horror stories of snapped dyneema lines and the steering cable is too important to see it break.

A while ago we had a whole batch of members reporting snapped dyneema lines used for backstays or topping lifts and they seemingly snapped from vibration or birds sitting on them alone!
