Replacing Lewmar Port Light Plastic Trim

I replaced my plastic trim rings on my Lewmar port lights, the ones you can't buy anymore. These rings are vacum formed I purchased a vacum table on the net that uses the vacum cleaner for the vacum. The plastic comes in pre cut sheets .030" thick the same thickness as the original. First you have to make a form then you use the oven in the kitchen to heat the plastic. The hardest part was trimming the excesws off. You can see one on the Deborah Lee's blog at Sailing Aboard The Deborah Lee I'll gladly answer any questions.

Deborah,

We have those same ones. I'd gladly pay for about a dozen - and I'll even do the trimming!

Ditto here! I would need 12 large and 4 of the smaller ones. Any way you can PM me with the materials/sources for the vacuum table and plastic, as well as a pattern and instructions for making the form? Having new ones that aren't yellowed for my Morgan would be so nice!
Thanks, Martha

Re: Replacing Lewmar Port Light Plastic Trim

Here are two sites. If you google it you'll even get some Utube videoes. The biggest thing is getting the temp. right in the oven. Most ovens seem to be a little low. once you start it goes real fast. After checking out these sites if you have any other questions I'll try to answer them. The more time you spend on the form the better everything works. It worked out to about $20 ea. Cheap when the Captain doesn't keep reminding me how bad they look.
