Replacment of Teak Decking

I want to replace the decking on our 47.7 First. The new deck will be made in a factory. The new panels will be sent to us by freight company and we will fit them ourselves. To avoid weeks labour to make the templates for the deck, I have been looking into getting cad templates from Beneteau but no joy yet. Has anybody done this before? We would love to get some info and advice from the you Cruisers/Sailers!

Re: Replacment of Teak Decking

We have a project coming up for new teak decks on an old boat. Good luck getting the drawings from the builder.

Re: Replacment of Teak Decking

We have just purchased a Beneteau First 47.7 and it will need the teak replaces in a year or so. I am interested to track this topic as I hope to learn from your experience. Also watching the fuel tank conversion thread as well. Farr designed the boat so it may be possible to get what you need from them, Just a guess.

If you don't have any luck then perhaps the age old method of cardboard or ply templates will need to be employed.

Hope you find a cost effective solution as some of the estimates i received prior to the purchase were 30k and above.

Or you could come to Phuket, Thailand. We're having our teak decks replaced with molded in gelcoat, but they do wonderful teak here as well. It's basically about $500/sq-m either way at the budget places. Gotta admit, the teak looks really gorgeous. Leave Darwin in July with the Sail Indonesia rally & you get up here about November. Extensive commentary of our experiences at Thai Refit

Make templates. Boat building being what it is the drawings might be far different than reality.

Hey Jim, had the teak decking boys over from Gold Coast today. They templated the entire deck in just 6 hours. I have the templates in the back of my van atm and will send them over to their workshop tomorrow. I was very impressed with their method and can see that the job will be accurate. Havent got firm price yet as the square metrege will be measured as per templates in their workshop. Ball park figure 25k fitted and if I choose 12 mm instead 9mm teak it will be 2k more. Google Timber by design and also go to Facebook! Very impressive stuff.

So how did the deck replacement go? Would love to hear your thoughts and what was the total cost?

I have not gone ahead yet with the decking. I am still in the water and waiting for the right moment to put the boat in to the shed. I have a firm quote from them without installation , think it was $12600. I may do the installation with somebody from Adelaide to save money. His price to send two guys from Coast to do the job is $12000 excluding airfares and accommodation. I will keep you posted.

That's looks great. Did you end up going with the teak from the gold coast? Like the new paint job.
