Repower Carolina 30 1984 with 3 GM 30f will it fit work?

I have a Catalina 30 1984 it has a Universal m25 which is seized. I have a great deal on a used Yanmar 3gm30 .?? Will it go in without major changes?
,I have read it would stick up 2 inches, but where and how much modifications. ? I need to decide. Can't find a deal on a m25!? Any out there.

FWIW, The rear engine mount points on a 3GM30F are considerably wider than an Atomic 4. You'll need to measure the available width in the boat compared to the mounts on the Yanmar. A 3gm30 does not fit in the same location, must be moved forward, on my Pearson 35. The hull was just too narrow aft without moving the engine nearly a foot forward using the stock mounts or 4" forward changing engine mount bracket locations and smaller after market mounts. To get the engine as far back as I could had to take the aft port engine mount bracket and install it reversed on the stbd. side. Fabricated a mount bracket out of 3/8" steel plate and used factory predrilled and tapped mounting point on Port side of the block to bolt the bracket to the engine. That got the mounts about 4"-8" forward of the factory location so I could slide the engine back where it didn't stick into the galley.

Whether it will fit is boat specific so get your tape measure out and have at it.

Length is also critical in most Catalina 30s.

There is a running take out D950 engine (same base engine as M25) on Craigslist in Punta Gorda, Fl. for 400.00. Could be that this is an attractive option, depending on where you're located...
