Re: Rope sale at West Marine

Last year I bought some line at that same sale. Half price was something like $0.75/ft. Same stuff, regular price at Lowes was $0.41/ft.

Buyer beware.

Do you have a link?

I didn't know Lowes sells New England rope.

Pretty sure they don't, at least around me. Most of their stuff is paper cored crap.

Not likely, CaptTom - 5/16" Sta-set X ($0.76/ft at West) is NOT the same thing as "3/8 braided polypropylene" ($0.41/ft at Lowes) - though if all you want is rope to tie up the dog, the Lowes stuff would work fine - as sailboat running rigging, there isn't any comparison.

Lowes doesn't sell any "quality" line.

Note Capttom's avatar, he has no need to worry about the quality of his running rigging.

Re: Rope sale at West Marine

I also never said it was 5/16" Sta-set or poly. Or anything, for that matter. I didn't memorize the exact price, either.

My point was I spent the next few weeks kicking myself for not checking to see IF the same stuff might be available elsewhere.

YMMV. Personally, I buy most of my line at the commercial fishermen's supply place. They don't stock a lot of sailing-related stuff.

I get all of my "rope", running rigging form these folks in Canada. They're the BEST:
