The box is insulated with the poly ISO foam you get at Home Depot or lowes. 4 inches on the sides and 6 on the bottom. Then fiberglassed with 7208 using poly resin. Then several coats of gel coat. Th kid was a bit harder to build but came out ok. Bondo can fix a lot!. I ordered the gaskets from a custom cooler place

Any details on how you built the freezer lid?

At the top of the box I staggered the 1 inch insulation to form the steps. I sanded the foam and used bondo to get things looking pretty good. Then two layers of 1708 cloth. Multiple thick coats of gel coat , some bondo again and sanding to get to finish. I then used this as a mold to make the lid. I just kept at it, devoting a bit of time each day till finished.
I used polyesters resins for this project, which will eat into and melt the foam. It does form a real good bond though[emoji16]. To combat to much melting I went light on the poly on the first coat of 1708 cloth.

I did get much of the interior roughed in. This is the main bunk. I have not seen this done before. I installed slats, maybe provide a bit of bounce and lots of ventilation for the coming foam mattress Click image for larger version

You bed slats will help stop mildew a lot. I customized an Ikea product to do the same thing and provide a lot of bounce. It even has little plastic slides that lets you adjust the amount of give for different parts of your body. The wood bows are easy to cut to length to fit the berth. There's no reason you couldn't install this on top of your current frame. It makes the boat mattress feel like it's got a really good box spring underneath.
