Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

DeWalt with changeable tips/ ratchet.. but also a few standard ones as well.

Drill hole in handle of one for "marine use" and place a cord for attachment to wrist.

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

See, now what I really need is a screwdriver set that comes with a users manual. You know, the kind that tells you which end to hold and not to use a Philips head in a slotted screw. And anyway where do you plug in these things?

While you're down at Sears buy a volt meter and maybe one of those temp guns. They're great for finding bad connections from Vise Grip crimps.

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

I have both Snap-On and Craftsman screwdriver sets. There is a difference between the 2. But either will work just fine. 1 thing to keep in mind, sometimes I need a prybar or chisel or do a little custom grinding and I'll grab an old Craftsman or even a cheapy everytime, not about to use my Snap-Ons for those times. Too much money to turn an expensive screw driver into a chisel.

I want to get a GOOD HIGH QUALITY new set of about 6, standard screwdrivers, flat and Phillips head.
Particularly the Phillips heads corrode at sea.

As i havent bought new good ones ever, I dont know what brands I shoulf be looking at.

Your advice would be appreciated. No, i am not after 136 screwdriver set for $3.85.

Thanky Tool Boys.

Interesting as I am in the same fix. I've decided to hunt down an old set of Sears Craftsmen with clear handles and blue/red trim. They seem to have kept the best edges over the years.

All the new stuff seems to be crap.

Oh Man, although some good info here this is starting to resemble the beginnings of an anchor thread

Just for fun.......my Craftsman screw drivers are better then your (place brand here) screw drivers. They've never failed in a storm and my engine has never died when using Craftsman screw drivers

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

While Snap On have an excellent reputation, my research led me to SK Tools as being almost as good, at about half the price. Still top quality, and made in the USA. I will only buy tools made in the USA, which rules out Craftsman, which are now made in China.

After 4 years use on the boat, I just threw away my Stanley set, as the tips are worn and the chrome is peeling off.

I just bought a couple of SK screwdrivers in this style, and if I were looking for a quality set I would consider this one :

https://www.amazon.com/Hand-Tool-863...crewdriver+set

Don't get the older style blue- handled ones, made while SK were owned by Facom, and made by them in France. SK now has new owners and all made here.

Klein is another brand thats mostly made in the USA. Not many tool companies are left that do so.

Yes, most brands outsourced to China. But not all. It's our job to support the ones that didn't!

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

Wera stainless screwdrivers have very hard tips that have laser etching to keep the phillips locked in. The robertsons are slightly convex and also really grab.
They are way better than my 40 year old craftsman's and, IMHO, the newer craftsman seem to be junk.

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

The newer Craftsman hand tools seem to be no better than the cheapie stuff from Harbor Freight. In some cases they seem to be exactly the same tool. So for most throw-away type hand tools I go to HF. I've never bought HF screwdrivers though, so I can't comment on those.

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

Yep, I have my dad's 50's Craftsman stuff, and I have a bunch of newer Craftsman stuff. There's no comparison. total junk for much of it today.

I wonder if he is going to tell us what he went with, or keep us in the dark.
