I went into a Kmart today and there's no hardware section on Manhattan. I got lost finding the exit in the Plus Size Bra department. I was there for an hour.

I went to the Ace Hardware and they had *no* tools at all. I said to the guy behind the counter "This is a midget Ace store". He looked up with a dirty stare.

I might wait till I get south a bit. These Hillary voters **** me.
Yup south, to Canal St.

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

Scrounge around the auto junk yards or flea markets for tool sets which came with old German cars. I'm still using a set which came off of a early 70s MB which I owned in the mid 80s as well as an old VW set from the early 80s. Both have wrenches and what not in addition to the screwdrivers. Also, the MB set, which is still in the little padded carton box it came with is (by now 45 years old!) has a telescoping mirror which I used umpteen number of times on the boat. And the tools are not ss just hardened steel, chromed on some of them.

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

I've found Craftsman quality has come down quite a bit in the past 15 or so years. The Lifetime Replacement Warranty isn't that helpful once you sail outside North America.

Klein however are (as said repeatedly above) suberb, and the standard I think all screwdrivers should be measured against. Can't recommend them enough. Pretty much every good electrician I know swears by them. I've got a few of the ones at home with insulated shafts (nice when working on live electrical equipment) and love them. Shrink sleeve is another alternative, but the Klein's insulation is much more durable. I'd think you could find them mail order pretty easily and shipping in North America is shockingly fast to wherever you're at.

Another vote for Kleins.

Check any commercial electricians tool belt and I'll venture to say 95% of the screw drivers, 9" side cutters, and dykes, you'll find there are Kleins.

As long as you are buying Kleins, buy one of these Kleins as well. Knowing you, you'll get more use out of one of these than any other tool.

I like quality tools as well but gave up on spending too much because if you use them a lot they eventually fall into the drink or get covered in epoxy and whatnots.

Another option is check at pawn shops. We've come across ones that have a bin with $1 tools. Dig thru and you can decent quality brand name ones.

Agree that I lose too many to be spending $15 on a single screwdriver.
