Secret location of the HIN no. Beneteau Oceanis 473 2002 model

Hi.
On my boat only the 3 middle numbers/letters of the HIN is visible on the port side, 8 inches below the toe rail and close to the stern of the boat. According to the manual, there is an copy of the HIN at a secret location on the boat. Do anybody know that location?

Most people on this forum would not know what a HIN No. is being from the USA (I won't elaborate!) Seriously:

Hull number is a serial identification number given to a boat or ship. For the military, a lower number implies an older vessel. For civilian use, the HIN is used to trace the boat's history. The precise usage varies by country and type. (Wiki)

For USA boats built since somewhere in the '70s I think, Transom upper right-ish. IIRC

Mine is on the side of my diesel fuel tank underneath the floor if that helps.

Since November 1972. Boats built before that didn't come with a hin.

Contact the manufacturer.

A few years ago I purchased a Hobie Tandem Island Adventure for use in trailering to sail on alpine lakes and when it arrived there was no number assigned, it had left the manufacturer without one being embosed to the hull. I had to contact Hobie and have them assign me a number, failing that I was just going to initiate my own number, since I was the owner.

Have you tried making a rubbing? Get a piece of vellum/parchment/tracing paper, place it over the HIN and use a soft pencil to make a rubbing. Amazing what you can recover even when it looks flat to the naked eye.

Just out of curiosity - how did you prove that you where the owner of that particular Hobie of you didn’t have an reference back to the actual boat, like an Hull Identification Number?

Bill of sale, same standard document used to establish ownership for all goods. I could have just engraved a number of my choosing, after all it is just a unique number to differentiate from others.

We put serial numbers on lots of our products that my company manufacturers no magic to them, but often they have some degree of code meanings and of sequence.

Actually the three digits may be the hull number. Reference:

Re: {Beneteau Owners} Hull Number -- defined
Our hull is: BEY61001H495

Breaks down as follows:
BEY = Beneteau
610 = model code for Oceanis 321
01 = hull number in the manufacturing/production run
H = month of manufacturer (August)
95 = year of manufacturer

If Hobie was not responsive, I had made up my mind to assign it my own alpha hull identification, being a Star Wars fan, I was thinking of: Hobie Wan Kenobi for state registration purposes.

Wow, it might be that simple! I have reached out to the Beneteau agent in Norway for confirmation. Thanks!

No idea for a Beneteau, but on my Lightwave I found a copy of the HIN inside a cupboard.

Also check on the inside of the transom. My last boat had it as part of the hull visible from outside which has been standard here in the USA for many years however when inside it was written and a layer of clear epoxy brushed over it.
Since this is your boat how have you registered it without knowing it? It was part of the bill of sale, tax and registration statements when I purchased all of my boats.

Good luck
