I've almost finished sanding down one side of my boat. (for bottom paint anyway) I tend to go overboard with the sanding though even though I know I should just rough up the surface a bit so the new paint will stick.

I had so much paint dust all over me and that I breathed in I promised myself some new breathing protection before I continue

Re: Should I keep sanding?

We've used the Interlux 2000 barrier/primer.

Alternating white / gray easily shows coverage.

Sanding not required between coats or for antifoul.

Bottom coat within the window suggested and it's a chemical bond.

If memory serves, five coats are suggested if the intent is to prevent blisters.

I've never heard anyone suggest that epoxy doesn't work on a poly boat
until this thread.

The only problem I've had with epoxy/colloidal silica is that after full cure it can resist sanding. I don't trust other fillers under the water.

Regards,
Ed W

Re: Should I keep sanding?

I’ll also vote for soda blasting. My yard did mine done a couple of years ago then applied a barrier coat then the bottom paint. The blasting also uncovered a number of small blisters that had escaped attention, so those were fixed as well. The job was thorough and saved me a ton of work. I’d highly recommend going that route.
