Slow Sink Drain

Our galley has a double sink and it’s draining very slowly. I removed the 3/4” hose, which had no blockage or kinks, and I opened the sea cock. A fat, fast stream of sea water shot into the bilge, convincing me that the through-hull and sea cock have no obstructions. The fittings on the bottom of the sink are clear.

Any ideas why it won’t drain properly?

Re: Slow Sink Drain

Even though you say it is clear i bet there is a blockage in the drain line on the other side. This prevents a vent when draining one side,

Every year or so i have to take apart and clear the side that the “dry” dishes get put because grease has blocked the tee between the sides.

Re: Slow Sink Drain

When we are at a dock I block one side of the double drain and bring a full pressure dock hose down. Give the other side a good flushing and then switch sides. It usually blows up some ugly black junk.

Re: Slow Sink Drain

If the sink drain is close to the water level of the sea it will drain slow

Re: Slow Sink Drain

We have a 1 1/2 inch drain hose. 3/4 is small for a sink drain.
