Solvent for Degreasing

I can't get Interlux 202 here in CA. Will Acetone return the same results for degreasing before I start applying fairing material and paint? Thanks!

Re: Solvent for Degreasing

Acetone removes pretty much everything that would prevent the fairing compound from sticking.

How dirty is dirty? Is there actual grease on the hull?

This works great on grease and goo. I get it at KKMI.

Looking at the MSDS for Interlux 202, it seems to have several solvents that are excellent dissolvers of silicone oil. I don't think that's a coincidence. It's clearly designed to remove silicone residues.

Acetone is only a moderate solvent for silicone oil. See here :

How about hitting it with something on the "excellent" list, and then the acetone?

Considering I am taking gelcoat down to bare fiberglass, there shouldn't be too much (if any) dirt/grease left. Just wanting an overall final clean before I start fairing and priming.

Thanks!
