I chose that model because with the lid removed, a rod can be passed through vertically. Because it, the stand pipe, and valve are all in alignment, blockages can be cleared without a drop of water coming aboard.
This is how we will do both engines next haul-out, when we have planned to replace the two seacocks. Presently, the strainer on the outside of the hull is of one piece with the seacock itself—so you can't remove the strainer when the boat is slipped. We found an oyster growing inside that was big enough to block most of the inlet hole. If it had grown any bigger, it might have. If we had the arrangement Panope talks about, every month or two in oyster spawning season, I will be able to run a piece of rod from the internal strainer (on the KAD-300s these internal strainers are above water level) down the standpipe to the outside of the hull and be confident that the pipe is completely clear.

Re: Standpipe system on fiberglass boat?

Ihave seen beautiful installations on steel and aluminium boats that have standpipes with a flange on top, that have these seacock + seastrainer combinations bolted onto that flange.

This also allows the inline cleaning via the top cap. There is also a service top cap with hose connector for flushing the engine or whatever is serviced by the valve.
