Exactly right. I have a similar setup on my yacht & with regular servicing its been fine since 1972.

Cant speak to your drive train, but the pics of your bilge looks fine. Is the bilge continuous with the engine compartment? If yes, then rust water could be from drive train. Do you have a small mirror and lite? look forward and aft in the bilge to find any other source of rust. Does she have a bolt on keel? Had to look up Stewart 34 sailboat...cant believe the space you have around the rear of the engine, should give you plenty of room to clean up & inspect/maintain.
