looks like they are drain holes. If they are dry just fill them in. No big deal in my opinion.

Well dang! Now we will never learn what they are there for. Better luck next time.

Re: Strange marks in Hull

The bottom line is simple. Those holes should not be there, nor anywhere else. The fact that they are there, and elsewhere, would be a big strike against this boat.

The name "Ganesh" rings a bell for me. Remember seeing a Waiquez 43 by that name mentioned in Cruising World some years back.

Re: Strange marks in Hull

Sure are a lot of conclusion being jumped to here ...

I recently surveyed a 2008 Jeanneau 54 DS that had 22 flush throughulls, 20 of which were grouped in four sets of three.

Also a 2004 Jeanneau 49 that had 18 throughulls in six groups of three.

Must be that "new math" working here!

But seriously, did they look like the pix posted here? And OMG, 22 thru-hulls... that's a lot of places to check when the water is over the sole and rising!

Actually the 54' did look a lot like the photo posted and I agree the number is just stupid but then again given what I see on a daily basis I don't have the respect for builders that some on this forum do.

Sorry my new math calculator was not working ... should be 12 in four sets of three

^^^^^

BP, thanks for the fill-in. I kinda believe that the OP's peculiar holes are likely to be just what you have described, and not evidence of mistreatment or folly... beyond that of the designer/builder!

Re: Strange marks in Hull

Well that was very educational and thanks again everyone, interesting to read the differing viewpoints and theories, I have to say personally I would have logically thought the less holes drilled through the hull, the better the integrity of the hull should be in times of stress in a storm etc.

Re: Strange marks in Hull

as said before....only way to be sure.....check inside the boat....if these were/are thru' hulls....why are the others "sealed"??

they sure don't look like "thru' hulls" to me, they look like "holes"...if they were "thru-hullls"...you'd see some kind of fitting there...plastic...bronze....???

This kinda reminds me of the VHF radio. You hear a situation develop, you get interested in the outcome, and then you sail out of range and you never find out what happened. How many times have you said "I guess we'll just never know"?

Can't be good, especially if there are sets of these holes. Run rabbit, run!

Sorry I'm late to this.

Those marks are definitely from an encounter with the dreaded Kraken...

Re: Strange marks in Hull

If nothing else you can infer from the various comments that holes in the boat goes against one of the three inalienable tenets of boat ownership: Keep the mast up and the keel down, keep the water on the outside of the boat and I forget the third (I spend all my time and money on the first 2) but holes in the boat are a really bad sign no matter what they're for.

Waiquez - I have a 86 model. What I see is flush thru hulls. There is a. Waiquez User group if you need more info.
