Stuffing Box Questions

I've never dealt with stuffing boxes, my project boat has/had a centerboard with a cable/shaft that pulls thru a stuffing box. The current stuffing box is seized up really bad, I'd tried my damnest to free it up.

The shaft is 3/4 and the OD of the pipe is 1 1/4" which seems like a hard size to find a stuffing box in.

Can I buy one of these and put a different/correct sized hose on it?

Is your current one bronze? real surprised you cant just free it up o ne way or another. I'm not I understand the details so cant comment on what will work. I doubt it too specialized though....

Be sure you have undone the locking nut before trying to loosen.

I finally got the current one off (I'm on the hard), the threads are pretty rusted and chewed up. I'd rather replace it now than replace it in a few years.

Great advice, it took some scrubbing to realize it was two nuts!

They only stock the hose and clamps, nothings as small as my 3/4" shaft.
