Surveyor / Project Manager for New Build

Hi everyone. I am planning a 63 ft semi-custom new build. Am looking for recommendations for a qualified surveyor who would keep an eye on the build for me, coming out to the yard every couple of months to check on things. New build supervision experience is a must, as is readiness to travel (the yard will be in asia). some experience dealing with chinese culture would be preferred. Surveyor's country of residence not as important as his quality. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Surveyor/project manager for new build

Good luck with your project. You may need on site/all time supervision although from what I have heard from another building in China.

Why follow plans if you can see a simpler way to do it. Workers may not have a history of boat structural requirements even if well educated.

Consider full time supervision to be safe and build that into the construction cost.

cheers

I'd suggest contacting Lloyd's Register of Shipping (not the insurers) to find out if they can recommned someone in the area. If the yard is professionally run, they should also be able to find you someone acceptablke to Lloyds or with similar expertise. See:
LLoyds and CL
for a discussion on Lloyd's ratings.
