Re: Taylor’s Cooker & Heater

In the UK you should be buying paraffin instead of kerosene - it is the best fuel. IIRC I bought some at a big DIY store.

Re: Taylor’s Cooker & Heater

I have successfully cleaned inside the burner tubes with a short length of 3 mm stainless wire in a battery drill. Once inserted run in reverse so it splays out a bit and cleans well.

Regards,
Richard.

I like that idea. I’ve used very small ss wire, the individual strands, to clean the jet apatures.

I’m wondering what you think of these burners?
I bought 3 of these to replace all of the burners in my Taylor cooker.
My experience is they are difficult to get tighten so they won't leak.
I had very difficulties with one of them. Inspecting the seal seat at the bottom under a magnifying glass revealed that the surface where the seal should tighten was not circular. I had to grind it down with a file a bit and create a new seal surface with a countersink. After this there where no leaks with a much less tightening needed.
The other 2 burners does not leak butt needed very high tightening. So much I was afraid of ruining the threads. I thing I need to adjust the as well to make servicing easier.

You were using a new washer? They should not be re-used. The fiber washers for the purpose do need a bit of force as they don't easily form to seal.

Oh yes. New aluminium washers. You could see that that the washer did not align to the burner inlet. After I fixed the connecting surfaces I had no problem getting it sealed. It then worked as it had 15 years before. I have never had any problems previously with this.

Re: Taylor’s Cooker & Heater

They appear to be generic replacement burners. Genuine Primus burners have the brand cast into the bottom side of the dish (and haven't been made for a long time now). The photos in the eBay listing show a really nice weld between the bottom nut and risers, and overall looks like high quality. But they would choose the best example to photograph. In my experience the quality can vary from burner to burner, even with the original Primus ones. I have had to throw out new burners (after scavenging parts) due to leaking at the weld. That said, a good burner can be used for many years; just don't crank down hard on the valve when turning off, and clean and replace parts as needed. In the future you might look at the Hanse burners.
