Re: Through hull sealant that can go in water before cured

Not that I have tried it, but there are numerous epoxies intended for underwater application, in gel form or as a putty, and available in small batches. That is what I would try first.

Re: Through hull sealant that can go in water before cured

I have seen salvage companies use PC-7 to repair cracks underwater.

https://www.pcepoxy.com/products/per...7-paste-epoxy/

I don’t know why epoxy would be dismissed as suitable, especially when TrueDesign lists it as compatible. Of course it’s permanent but what is bad about that? Like I wrote before, just drive the hole saw through again when it needs to be replaced.

Re: Through hull sealant that can go in water before cured

Having removed skin fittings on a strip plank hull that had been epoxied in place, I went that method on our plywood yacht. It saved all the BS of sealing the plywood end grain etc. I usually use a grinder with a cut of disc when removing seacocks so I am not worried about the difficulty in removing them later.
Fixtech is another good product I have used extensively in the marine industry.
Cheers

another good thing about the fixtech is that its shelf life AFTER OPENING is much longer than Sika 291 or 5200, especially if you keep the open tube in your fridge. Don't know how many solid tubes of 291 I've thrown out... but it is not insignificant!

Hey thanks Jim. Good information. Yes, I have also thrown out sooooo many tubes of 5200. And it’s not cheap! Will check into this sealant. Haven’t looked but assume it is available in the US.

No you won’t find it; it’s a down under product. In the US, search for “hybrid sealant” to find options. Most use BoaTLife LifeSeal.

I have converted from Sika to Fixtech. I have even banned a lot of Sika in the commercial construction industry.
