Tiller arm for autopilot help.

My rudder shaft is 1.85" i can get a custom made tiller arm from edsion for like $850. And its not even drilled out. I see buck algonquion and a few other companys make some that have a rudder size of 1.75. Now im wonderi g if i can fit the 1.75 onto my 1.85 shaft? I will need the split back clamp on type so it wont be sliding up the shaft itll be bolting on like a saddle. I could save 500$ any advice? Or does any one know a machine shop that would make one i couldnt find any.

Re: Tiller arm for autopilot help.

If the B.A. 1 3/4 tiller arm has enough material in the web to allow the hole to be opened up to 1.85 then the solution is easy. Bring it to a nearby machine shop and they can use a jig bore to open the hole up if they don’t happen to have an end mill that size from a previous job. Very basic machining.

Here’s a start…..try a web search or call a local boatyard and ask them for a referral.
