Re: Tinting 2 part Poly?

Go to Color Wheel - Color Calculator | Sessions College. Pull the center circle toward the red, then down into the blue. Then, reach over to the red/black strip to the left and pull in some black. Play with it. Enjoy!

I had the exact same problem a few years ago, although I started with a bright red paint because I couldn't find the color of burgundy that I needed. Went to Home Depot paint department and bought a tube of black tint. No special kind that I can remember. Slowly added it to the red and mixed it thoroughly until it was the color I needed.

Can't overstress the part about slowly adding and mixing. If you put in too much there's no way of taking it out.....

Several people just strongly suggested using black paint from the same manufacturer, and not a 3rd party tint.

Re: Tinting 2 part Poly?

chris95040 is correct. With LPU paints, don't use tints designed for other paint chemistries. Everybody has to be on the same page chemically speaking so the catalyst is appropriate for the formulation. It's fun, though, playing with color to try to match different paints to a base coat.

Re: Tinting 2 part Poly?

Never occurred to me to use black paint of the same kind as a tint, although it definitely makes more sense. OTOH, tint was a whole lot cheaper.
