Tips on replacing acrylic in Gebo opening portlight

Hi, I'm after any tips on removing the old acrylic lens (which is crazed) and replacing it with a new one. There is a company that will cut new acrylic lenses so that's not an issue. Just wondering if anyone has experience that I can learn from before I have to learn the hard way ;-)

The portlight is exactly the same as in this Sailing Britican's video

I've anticipated the problem so I have made up f/g "lids" to protect the acrylic when the hatch is not in use. (Held in place by "occy straps" ("Bungee" cords)

Why not use toughened safety glass and you will solve the problem for good?

"When compared to acrylic glazing, used in most deck hatches, toughened glass will not scratch as easily or suffer UV degradation. With an above deck height of a mere 25mm, these hatches are extremely streamlined and cause minimum obstruction on the deck.

The latest issue of Practical Sailor just addressed how to cut your own. But yes, plastics shops can do it for sure. Here on the US West Coast TAP plastics is the go-to place for this work. Acrylic is the material you want in particular for the UV capability. Look for something like this company in your area. However, Gebo does have their own website.

When I wanted two windows for my yacht the suppliers said I should use glass and attached to the cabin with Fixtech (the same adhesive car manufacturers use) He said "production boats are fitted with glass windows these days" I don't know how true that is?
