Tohatsu 9.8 won't start???

Idle circuit for most small engine carbs can be located by looking for a small hole just inside the air intake of the carb. To clean, remove the carb, insert small red tube provided with carb cleaner and flush circuit well with carb cleaner (it will exit small holes inside the carb body and flow out of the opposide end of the intake. This should clear most dirty idle circuit problems.

Thanks for everyone's input. Problem was water in the carb. Drained water out and it started, and has run well since.

Had same problem. Brand new last year. Could not get started. Final answer is not to use full choke. Half choke works most of the time.3 to 5 pulls. Nice engine but too hard for the wife to start. Cannot trust that it will always start with just her in the boat.

Just like the OP its probably dirty carb, thats by far the most common problem with any small carburated motor. Cleaning the carb will likely resolve your problem.
