first, it's not an all or nothing deal. you can have a mix. it's really about aestetics and a software rendering can be a big help. 2nd, you can design open cabinets that can receive doors later and add them in the future if you want. me personally, I don't like all bare bone gellcoat finish, which many light weight open designs are. I think the open design can look okay if executed properly, but I would mix it up and ensure I had a nice mix of wood veneer, trim to balance the white out.
