Very Thin Gelcoat

I have a 1971 Coronado. Gel Coat above the water line is very thin. In many areas the first layer of fiberglass mat has become visible. I am NOT worried about appearance at this time, however I am worried about structural damage to the underlying fiberglass cloth and mat. Should I be concerned? I wanted to haul out in a couple of years and sand and paint it as funds and timing are tight right now. Thanks in advance,

Spencer
