Not necessarily. The big guys will use stuff frequently not available locally, because they can haul and paint anywhere in the world. The commercial boats are notoriously cheap and will use the worst crap they can get their hands on, because their boats don't stay still very long and they aren't going to pay somebody to clean them anyway.

Oh no! This thread could reach new levels of redundancy by then!

If the law was and applied equally I would follow it. Now I will go out of my way to break it. It really is a moot point, I plan to be cruising before the ban takes place.

Yes, you're quite the rebel. You will either go to a place where your paint of choice is not illegal or you will be out of the country before the ban takes effect.

So you just criticized someone on the cruisers forum for wanting to go cruising

As far as being a rebel. I spent five years in Florida riding with no helmet when there was a helmet law. Notice the past tense? Was a helmet law. There is not one now.

Umm... no, I criticized you for for saying you would intentionally break the law in protest and then telling us you'd either paint where it is legal to do so or be out of the country. Just how exactly is not breaking any laws a protest?

So you want me to hang around so I can break the law? Maybe in my younger days.... I will bet anyone here an adult beverage the law never makes it into effect. At least in it's current form.

Fellas, pace yourselves. We've got six more years to argue about this!

a 9mm semi-auto handgun will prevent bottom growth as long as it uses copper jacketed ammo, but it's limited location wise

That's very public spirited of you. All those riders without helmets do wonders for my chances of getting an organ transplant if I ever need one.

Have you heard about this guy?

Surely a shotgun would be more effective.

Is anyone here really OK with destroying Montana and poisoning it for generations in the name of their antifouling? 'Cause that's what will happen if they keep this up. Or OK with the same industry that does this putting toxic goo in your coastal waters for a profit? Do some research on copper mining, it's reprehensible. Obviously the copper will continue to be mined regardless, since it has countless uses and is becoming increasingly valuable, but any step in the direction of awareness of the toxic nature of this industry is a good thing. More regulation is clearly needed, not more superfund sites.

Berkeley Pit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
???? Are you for real? 99% of mined copper is used for electrical wiring.

Copper bottom paint is a very small, almost unmeasurable percentage of total use, and is mainly made from the residue of other copper processing.

Saying banning copper bottom paint will stop strip mining is a very vacuous argument.

Banning copper mining would put us back into the stone age. Strip mining is the only way it can be extracted affordably. Winds farms, and solar farms use massive amounts because the power generation is spread over a large area. Even a total ban on copper on all ships would not even equal 1 days production in one of these mines.

We are about to run out of easily acessable copper, which means the price is about to go WAY, WAY, up. At which point most of us could not afford to use it in bottom paint anyway.

If you look into E10 it is really very environmentally destructive.

Like the new bulbs containing mercury which if they break send toxic voltilized mercury into the air. Mercury which environmentalists say is so bad they want to destroy the coal industry.
Energy from incandescent bulbs is not wasted as they do heat the house slightly. Energy from less efficient fridges is the same and that is an efficient heat pump, yet they tell you to stop using your old fridge and buy a new one to save power and the environment. That old fridge heats your house. the energy is not wasted.
You forgot to add throw away old car and buy new hybrid.

Also all this throwing away of the old is filling up the landfills faster.

Plus think of all those big polluting power sucking factories churning out the new "green" stuff, that have to run on overtime to keep up with the demand caused by throwing away the old stuff prematurely.
