Water Strainer

I've a question about the water strainer. I want to open it up and clean it out, put when I open the top then water flows out - even when I close the seacock. I imagine it's draining water back from the engine.

Here's the question - do I need to do anything to get the water back into the engine after I've cleaned this filter? Engine is a Yanmar 3GM30F.

Re: Water Strainer

No you don’t need to do anything. Just check of course it’s not leaking when you open the seacock.

And check for water flow out of the exhaust.

Re: Water Strainer

Welcome to the forum.

Ensure that the seacock is working properly, to shut off flow when closed and restore flow when open.

A small amount of water draining from the engine is tolerated by the system.

When the strainer cleaning is completed, leave the strainer full of water and the seacock open.

+1, after the engine is started verify that water is coming out with the exhaust. It is good practice to always verify water flow after each engine start.
