Not me and as the foundry I'm just looking for how to make enough to afford a cup of coffee.

Forget about a gallon of diesel.

I want kind words, a scratch and dent sample, and an invitation to come see them on the boat... In case of hardship, I'll take any one of the three separately out of sequence or any two in combination.

Actually it has been a fun process, between the vocabulary lessons, online searches, studying the actual form and fit of the part through pictures and reports, practicing CAD, learning more about casting, and how to use toothpaste as a wear indicator. So fresh, so minty!

Gilow I would have thought lock tight nuts would have done. I never realised it got warm enough in South Australia to open portholes?
Cheers

Re: What are these portlight closures called?

I tried my hand at sand casting the parts in aluminum using the CAD file from before to slice into a program run a 3D printer to make the pattern for the sand. It was my first time doing a split pattern so it's a little rough but shows the concept pretty well. Now, if only I had some port lights in need of new dogs...

Brilliant! Can you make the whole darn portlight in aluminium? I’ll swap you 12 monstrously heavy bronze port lights for some sleek, light-weight aluminium versions.

I just had someone buy my four bronze mooring line cleats for $100 each. That’s nearly double the price of a brand new aluminium version that weighs about one tenth of the bronze plus actually WORKS. I really cannot understand how people let their boats get so heavy..

Never been to Adelaide but was warm enough in Sidney for me to be in shorts and tee shirt when I was last there. ( July 1986 ) fremantle was 4 years later but in May so almost hot.
But for me anything over 10°C and I'm in shorts and above 15 I start to sweat .
