What is this Fancy Fastener

In restoring my Olson 40 I came across a fancy fastener, see photos, of which I found three in total. I don't know what they were/are used for - Dodger Setup comes to mind. Any help would be appreciated.

Dimensions: Knurl 0.75in dia; Shaft 0.36in dia; Runout 0.25in dia; LOA 2.05in

Re: What is this Fancy Fastener

The lead of the modified ACME thread doesn’t extend to the free end, so it has to have come out of some sort of split female mating component. There is no way to start this probable adjusting screw into a fully circular female component without a split.

It is to lock a sliding mechanism in place, (such as a sliding window or cupboard door) as you turn the knob the pin on the end extends out or pulls in depending on which way you turn it.

The retaining pin or dog screw that runs in the spiral has fallen out and released it from somewhere.

Re: What is this Fancy Fastener

Dave - I think you've got it! As I noted, there are three of these and only a couple of things on my boat that move: these could be for a companionway lock: one screw to port, one to stbd and one up to the the sliding hatch (although there is no evidence of mother-cylinders). Or could be two lock down the gimballed stove and one for the hatch. At least you've given me the gist of how it works, now just need to figure out where it worked, and if it is still needed. Thx, tom
