What's the best Zinc spray?

For my Flexofold. PNW.

Any reason not to daisy chain zincs on my prop shaft?

Re: What's the best Zinc spray?

I have never found one that comes remotely close to working, so, following this with interest.

Like a zinc paint to use instead of an anode? You probably want an antifoul paint like propspeed, not a spray on zinc.

There is a correct amount of protection, and it is possible to have too much. Why do you want to daisychain zincs? (I assume that to mean install more than one?)

Re: What's the best Zinc spray?

No I'm going to use an anode on the shaft, maybe two as one was installed last April prolly has life left - just ad another.

"Propspeed" $$$$$$$$$$$$.....yikes!

$59.95 Cdn, eh?

My yard guy used some product when we did the Flex-O-Fold install. I'll ask.

I've had good results with Walmart fence zinc spray for $4.99. The guy a few boats over at the yard who was using WM version on his prop, came over, read the ingredients on my can and rolled his eyes as both cans had the same % of zinc.

Re: What's the best Zinc spray?

I'm missing something, obviously. Zinc spray on a prop? I have never heard of that. Why? That won't help with fouling, and isn't helping if you have an anode on the shaft. You might end up OVER protecting and causing other problems.

Propspeed (or whatever cheaper alternative) helps with fouling, and also helps with corrosion because it reduces the contact with water.

Adding a second anode on the shaft could also overprotect. There is a correct amount of protection, you do not want any more or less.

Unless there is something I don't understand about the zinc spray.

Re: What's the best Zinc spray?

I use a galvanizing zinc spray from Rust Oleum. Not for ZINC purposes but for anti-foulding. Does it work as good as Propspeed - no. Does it cost very little - yes. It is good enough with regular underwater cleaning.

Whatever's cheapest. Honestly, zinc paint is better than nothing, but not by much.

Edit: I thought you were looking for anti fouling protection. Don't paint your expensive folding prop with a zinc paint and assume it is doing anything against corrosion.

Guarantee that is not going to happen.
