Where to get used gear in Washington?

I'm in the Bellingham-Seattle area for the next week and I'm trying to find deals on some used boat gear. Head/holding tank, gimbal oven, wind generator, solar panel, or any other useful stuff I come across. Are there any good boat junkyards or used gear shops in the area?

Good Old Boat - Consignment Stores

There has been some of that stuff on craigslist recently, maybe it was PDX though. Not sure if any stores will handle used holding tanks... I've got one in my junk, er, resources collection, but maybe a bit out of range at 200 miles or so.

Lately we have had several boats cut up, maybe look for someone who disassemble boats, like boat yards full of the broken dreams. Most holding tanks and heads pulled off boats are spent and near free. Remember you can use any polypropylene roto-mold tank and convert it to a holding tank.

Where do you get these? Industrial supply stores? Do you have to make the correct size openings?

Longship Marine in Poulsbo usually has some stoves in stock, and certainly some wind generators the last time I was in there (August).

They often post stuff on Craigslist too, here is there current offering.

Sailboat Wrecking in Lyndon. Love that place. Lots of stuff. Lots of boats in the graveyard that you could harvest parts and tanks from. Talk to Jeff, the owner.

Re: Where to get used gear in Washington?

Unfortunately we have lost two good resale shops in the last few years. One in Bellingham and one is Seattle.

The Bellingham store owner retired and the Seattle store lost it's lease due to property values skyrocketing and the property owner wanted to redevelop.

We also had a neat little shop in Anacortes that recently changed hands a got rid of resale items.

There is an opportunity for this kind of business in the area but my guess is that profit margins are slim. Large inventories, much of which is junk do not make large profits.

Try Boaters Discount in LaConnor. Or if you find yourself visiting in the Portland Oregon area Sextons Chandlery is amazing.
In Anacortes the explore store at Marine service center has some used consignment gear.

Ronco tanks is a great source for tanks. They’ll install fittings on a custom basis, as well.

Re: Where to get used gear in Washington?

The truth is it's very hard to just find a tank that will fit your boat. Things like the connections and your space available, you'll possibly will need to order from Ronco. When you call act like you're a marine business and get the jobber's price. That's where I got my last two tanks and got 30% off.

On the heads Jasbco heads are pretty reasonable. They're ok, very easy to get parts. Just don't buy the compact size if you have room.

Also in Portland, try Columbia Marine Exchange. Google their name. Most of their inventory is online. There is a good one in Port Townsend as well but the name evades me.

Re: Where to get used gear in Washington?

I've learned a lot by asking harbor masters and folks on the docks wherever I've gone.

Good luck, happy hunting.
