Re: Who knows about this windvane ?

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Sven.

I think that the CYS system was described by Dan Spurr in “Upgrading The Cruising Sailboat”*.

Welcome.

Where did you find the picture? That might help us find some info...

Re: Who Knows About this Windvane ?

Hi,
some years ago I asked about that windvane recently I found it in:
"Spurr's Boatbook, Upgrading the cruising sailboat", 2nd edition, page 139 .
On page 141 Spurr writes, that "Bob Verhaeghe" was the builder of that CYS vane. Unfortunately I found nothing about him in the Internet, does perhaps anybody know or have heard about him ?

If you mean Adam Windpilot as shown in the photo, no it isn't.

Re: Who Knows About this Windvane ?

Why are you asking?

If you are trying to reverse engineer or come up with a similar design i may have a source of drawings. John Belcher drew a few, I have one.

Re: Who Knows About this Windvane ?

Page 48 of Peter Forthmann's book "self-steering under sail," downloadable here,

WINDPILOT: selfsteering under sail

has one of the few references I've ever seen to vertical shaft trim-tab-on-auxiliary-rudder systems.

I do my best googling when I know the reason for the search though...

ps Rodger Martin seems to be a yacht designer from SA, didn't look any further.

Re: Who Knows About this Windvane ?

Just ran across the post--and a very late reply:

https://books.google.com/books?id=YN...201983&f=false

I have the CYS wind vane on my Pearson 30.

Cheers!
