Yacht in transit - Canada

Does the "yacht in transit" work for sending parts tax free to a foreign flagged vessel that is not staying in Canada?

It did in Mexico 20 years ago but things may have changed a lot in that time!

Re: Yacht in transit - Canada

I always have marked packages that way but whether it makes any difference is hard to say. Sometimes my packages are opened, sometimes not. But I try not to have expensive items sent. Be aware that things can sit in customs for several weeks. Don't bother with rush shipments!

If you buy a part from a Canadian supplier that is used to dealing with commercial marine users they may waive the sales tax. And if you purchase in Canada items that are not consumed in Canada and leave with the boat you can apply for a tax rebate after you leave. Requires documentation of course and check online for the latest.

As a US visitor my experiences with Canadian customs have always been good but YRMV. Same as every where else!
