Yanmar Instrument Panel Redux

Background: My 2GM20F yanmar panel's (type b) tach is toast, like completely gone. I don't really think I need a tach. Our bay is pretty calm and this boat is a weekend cruiser for us. The panel's plate is cracked. I'm fiberglassing a recessed panel in the cockpit.

What are things I should be considering when I remount the dummy lights, switches etc?

I'd also like to ditch the key and just add a switch. Could any three post switch work?
