Canadians: Do I Need a Zarpé to Enter Mexico?

I'm Canadian with a Canadian registered sailboat.

I left British Columbia without getting a zarpé and now I'm in San Diego and I don't even think I could obtain one if I wanted. I can't get to shore reliably because of ridiculous regulations about leaving the boat at anchor so...

Do I need a zarpé to enter Mexico? Next stop is Ensenada.

When you entered USA did you get a cruising license (whatever it is called)? If yes, then you need to check out (cancel licence) before leaving USA. We did this in person downtown San Diego. Not sure if you can do this on the ROAM app (we were there before such things).

(Others here can give proper terminology.)

That paper is effectively your "zarpe".

Having said that, I do not recall folks in Ensenada asking to see it.

Thanks. The CBP agent I spoke to on the phone said I didn't even have to cancel my cruising license when I leave the USA if I'm not intending to return (I'm not returning) so that's pretty cool.

Guidance per Noonsite, reference link and see attached snipet:

https://www.noonsite.com/report/head...enforce%20this.

The USA Customs and Border Patrol Form 1300 Vessel Entry and Clearance Statement is what passes as the equivalent of a zarpe but is formatted primarily for commercial ships but can be completed for recreational yachts.

I believe he'll need a TIP, also. Temporary Import Permit. He will have to tie up to the Police Dock or some such and go into town to get it.

Cancel your US cruising permit.. just in case..

Ensenada has no problem with Zarpes (at least it did not a year ago)
if you go to any of the major marinas (Cruiseport, Marina Coral, Baja Naval) they will be able to help you deal with all your paperwork to get a TIP.

Enjoy your trip.

One thing to keep in mind is that every CBP office (and perhaps officer) interprets the rules differently. I tried to cancel a cruising permit once in New Jersey before heading off to Bermuda and they said, no, you have a permit in place until the date on the form.
