One of the first things that the Canadian Border Patrol asks upon entry is to declare if you have any firearms; it is imperative that one declare and fill out the appropriate forms for up to three allowed weapons. Big problem if you forget for example that you left a handgun in the glove compartment or under your seat. I recall a friend a longtime back who used to keep a rifle on the rack across the back window of his pick up truck along with a fly fishing rod and a lariat and he totally forgot about his rifle that was displayed in full sight just behind his head, so when the Canadian Border Patrol asked if he had anything to declare he said "No, sir." and the border patrol agent then pointed at the rifle and asked: "How about that?" pointing at the rifle. A rifle being a customary accoutrement for a rancher to have in his pickup truck was then declared by stating: Oh, yeah, I have a rifle." That was back in the day, when the border would "close" at 5 pm and the border patrol agent would just place an orange traffic cone in the middle of the lane to indicate the border was closed for the evening.

Re: Entering Canada from the US. Any updates?

Least we not forget that the US / Canada border has not and is not closed to essential travel. The border is closed only to non-essential travel which recreational purposes would be decidedly non-essential. Tourism in general is non-essential.

Just because the non-pharmaceutical interventions are being eased, does not mean that social distancing and mitigation of non-essential contacts should not be continued. It is a matter of social trust that one remain acting as if you are the vector, that you are Typhoid Mary or Covid Chuck and could infect and endanger others. It is wise to limit your contacts with persons that you do not cohabitate with. The virus remains virulent and community spread, your shipmates should be your housemates. Nothing has changed in that regard.

Not arguing about the meat of your statement, but you should realize when a Canadian talks about "down south" he is generally referring to the US as a whole, not what an American thinks of as the South.

Re: Entering Canada from the US. Any updates?

It appears the USA Canadian border will remain closed through June.

"Those restrictions do expire here on the 21st of May. We will likely look at expanding those restrictions, as the country continues to be a phased opening approach, state-by-state, governor-by-governor, so we're taking a look at that as well," acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf told reporters last week.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also suggested last week that the US-Canada border would likely remain closed through June. The agreement as it stands forbids any non-essential travel, although commercial traffic continues.

And this is why the border is closed

I agree. And your statement is a clear violation of forum rules as well.

Back to the original topic. Obviously, the answer to this question will continue to evolve, but is there any movement on when “non essential” border crossings will likely resume and under what conditions?

Re: Entering Canada from the US. Any updates?

We live on the Canadian Border and our closest "town" is Thunder Bay while our closest US town is 110 miles away. Our life "takes place" in Canada by seeing eye doctors, dentists, etc. Northern MN is very remote and geographically isolated from the US. We've been told at the border that June 21st is the first day for us to re-enter and that could change as it gets closer to that day. We use a "remote border crossing" permit to enter Canadian waters for an overnight; and when day sailing it's polite to have it on board as well. Good luck, stay safe and have fun when or if you go.

If I was as fear-driven as some of the posters in this thread appear to be, I'd be lobbying BC to be closed to travel from Quebec, which has had more than half of all Canadian Covid deaths.

Oh, and what is Quebec doing? Opening schools and retail businesses.
I thought my opinion would be useful. Just look at the curve here for the daily US cases and extrapolate it forward, does it look like it will be under control by next month? Stupid political decisions don't change the science.

Correction - Stupid political decisions don't change the science, but will significantly worsen the data.

The US is "lumped together" because it a is a single country with a single idiot calling the shots

BC recommends, if not discourages or bans travel between provinces.

Save that for a forum on politics.

Ah, found memories. Living in Thunder Bay we would often skip down to Grand Marais to get away from the Big City . It was a favourite stop, whether by sail or motorcycle.

Thinking about it makes me miss the area .
