EU VAT for UK resident post Brexit

I plan to buy a new boat outside of the EU/UK and register it in the UK.
My understanding (correct me if I am wrong) is that I'll need to pay VAT if I ever import it into the UK (I never plan to, we will be cruising around the world).

What is unclear to me is now, as a UK resident/citizen, if I sail the boat to the EU will they try and get me to pay EU VAT or will I be on the 18 month temporary import?

Another complication, I am UK resident/citizen, my wife is a UK resident/citizen and an EU citizen (Irish) but not an EU resident. The boat will be in my name but as she'll be on the boat throughout our stay in EU waters will that cause any VAT issues?

Many thanks for anyone who knows about this. I couldn't find a definitive answer online.

You're just the same as a citizen of Swaziland. 18 months temporary import.

No complication. She isn't a resident.
