French Polynesia 'bond' necessary for British crew members?

Hi all,

I've had a bit of a hunt around the web and i think I know the answer to this question but just wanted to double check with experienced sailors here...

...As a British citizen crewing with a boat from the EU, do I need to post a 'bond' or have a pre-booked flight home in order to enter French Polynesia?

Many thanks for your advice in advance,

Tom

Lets assume, Britain will be still part of the EU:

The bond is not required for EU citizens, per one of the cruising bibles:

We went there 2 years ago, same rules, no bond for EU citizens

I had to check what I said there, but it seems right, despite the EU being a mess. Noonsite refers a couple of times to "Schengen" and Britain is not part of it...

Here is a portion of a British cruising blog, June 2006:

The check-in went smoothly - as we are EEC citizens. Non-EEC citizens have to pay a very large bond, sufficient to pay for a one way ticket back to their home country.

Thanks Dirk.

This confirms what I've read on Latitude 38 ( Latitude 38 - 'Lectronic Latitude ) and elsewhere which is great news.

If anyone else can confirm this from their more recent visit it would be much appreciated.

Also, as an added note, my girlfriend and I will be available as experienced crew in French Polynesia from June/July onwards - hoping to end up in Australia.

Thanks!
