Unhappy Home Port

My vessel is located and registered in Arizona. If I trailer my boat to Los Angeles and coastal sail to a port in Mexico, must I list Phoenix, Arizona as my home port or LA from where I departed and shall return.

it's your call

there are a great many documented yachts that have never even visited the home ports listed on their transoms.

"registered in Arizona"
Then that's your home port. The same one that is listed on your registration and title.

I don't know how Mexican national authorities are going to look at an Arizona registration, as opposed to a state they might be more familiar with (like CA) or federal documentation, so you might want to make sure they'll have no problem with it.

If your boat is titled and registered in Arizona, I don't think that the Arizona authorities much care what you put on your transom. If sailing to foreign countries, you might want to consider documenting your boat with the USCG, and dropping the state title.

U.S. boaters cruising to foreign countries usually prefer federal documentation to attain certain protections afforded by the US flag, which include aid from the US consulate when you are in need. Foreign port officials will easily recognize federally documented vessels when clearing in. They may or may not look favorably on state documentation. It probably depends on how used to seeing state titles they are.

I would get it documented just to keep the officials happy.

Your Mac26 is going to be right on the cusp of eligibility for documentation, chucktro. Here's a link to the USCG documentation FAQs page:

USCG National Vessel Documentation Center, FAQ Page

I know many people who trailer their way-too-small-to-document vessels down to the Sea of Cortez without any problems. Your state registration will be all that you need.

Otter, you mean to say, all the scuttlebutt about the Federales in Mexico being unhappy with anything except mordida, is a wicked lie?
