Depends on how big the chip is. Yours is huge. What I'd like to see is the rising count of how many have put you on filter.

BTW, on this forum, having one's posts deleted is not a bragging point.

I haven't seen the deleted posts, but I can probably explain the vitriol you're experiencing.

You've made three disconcerting claims, from a navigator's perspective: (1) you've "peeved" four tugs recently inside a shipping channel; (2) you are not familiar with the COLREGS; (3) you refuse to monitor VHF 16, even though you have three radios aboard, despite the requirement to do so as part of keeping a proper watch.

What seasoned mariners perceive from all this is that you are the problem. You are the ignorant, untrained, sloppy recreational boat owner who gives the rest of us a bad name. Thousands of us can learn the rules and do everything right, and one of you comes along and ruins it for all of us. More to the point, you are unsafe, and you are a risk to everyone on the water.

If you were sitting across the saloon table from me right at this moment, I would not hesitate to tell you to get off the water until you learn enough to change your attitude.

Seriously. Get off the water.

Re: I Keep Peeving Tugs.

Let's see - Assuming that this is not a troll....

Scoobert has indicated that he does not really understand either the rules or the need for rules on the water. Scoobert has been given advise for training and the need to understand the requirements. Scoobert refuses.

Scoobert has indicated that he has a CDL. I presume that he makes his living that way.

I would like to point out that a copy of COLREGS/Inland Rles are required to be carries on your boat and that you are required to follow these rules.

I wold like to point out that US Inland Rules are part is US law.

Scoobert willfully refuses to follow US law and I only wonder if he will be charged with manslaughter or 2nd degree murder after someone dies.

Given the gross disregard for the Law I can only presume that the charges will be murder.

Should I be the one he kills I direct my wife to sue for everything and a bit more.

I think that we can assume that scoobert will at some point or another come to the attention of the Coast Guard or other law enforcement I expect that his CDL will be revoked.

Pity the poor souls who are near him.....

Re: I Keep Peeving Tugs.

Oscillating horn? I've never seen that in COLREGS, or in the NYS rules for inland waterways like the Hudson.

I've also spent little time in the Hudson but don't think you'll find any "channels" in it. A channel is only a channel when there's a NOAA chart officially designating an area as such.

Not to pick nit but these little things can be important, even outside a court or responding to a citation.

Now, navigation on the Hudson, where barge tows may have to swing wide because of the current and where prudent navigators are REAL DAMN GLAD to hear VHF calls before they round a blind corner, can be harder than it seems. If a barge string is coming down with the current the right of way rule is "NO BRAKES!" and that's just the way it is.

When in doubt...find out the real rules. If that means dropping by a couple of USCG stations and asking them about rules and traditions, hey, they get paid to answer them. Stop by between meals with a box of coffee and donuts and someone will be glad to see you. (Works in all sorts of places, that's not a cop-donut joke.)
