Import foreign boat to US

Hi
Due to Covid now have UK sailing boat in California. ( We are US citizens too)
Need to import it to sell it Tayana 52. Any advice on how to avoid massive taxes etc? Don't have cruising permit as the customs here in Northern CA will not issue one!

The duty rate for boats into the US is a very reasonable 1.5% I highly recommend getting a customs broker to handle the paperwork for you, they are also very reasonably priced. It's not hard but some of the things like the EPA requirements for your engine can benefit from someone with experience.

I am curious how you have the boat in the U.S. without a cruising permit? You may well have issues if you try to import the boat if it's already here and shouldn’t be.
