Importing parts from U.S. into Turkey????

I need to have a few items shipped from U.S. into Didim, Turkey, at the Marina. I talked to one of the local yard directors, and he advised me against it - he said that by the time I pay the Turkish Customs, I might as well just buy a new boat -and that is even IF I ever see my package!! I am looking for someone who has actually attempted this, and their experience. Problem is, I only have 24 hours to make decision. Thanks coguard@email.com
