Leaving Greece

Hi I am a UK citizen and am currently sailing my boat between Spain and Turkey. I am currently in Greece and have paid my cruising tax online but plan to arrive in Turkey before my allotted time (90 days) runs out.

My question is do I need to formally check out of the EU or does clearing customs in Turkey and having your passport stamped automatically confirm you have left the EU?

Thanks

Mike

I would suggest you clear out of Greece and get your passport stamped.. Brits are having a hard time in the EU generally, for example us Portuguese residents are having problems with renewals etc. over 37,000 of us, Spain is another country enjoying being a pain.
Don't give the bugga's the chance to be a pain and follow the letter.. it ain't like the 'old days'..

Well you voted to leave the club. The rules were always there just now you are exposed to them. !! It’s no different for other third nation citizens. Countries don’t “ pick “ on Brits nor does the EU. Visa renewals have been problematic because sone countries are swamped and struggling to clear backlogs. Greece bent over backwards to facilitate residency visas under the withdrawal agreement.

Get an exit stamp is best. Next year it will all be in ETIAS system anyway

Having said that in Greece unless you clear out at a port of entry there will be no immigration personnel and even if they are supposed to be present they can’t be found. ( some big marinas can organise it. ). So at present your entrance stamp into Turkey will be taken as proof when you renter the EU.

No regrets just amusement...
The Brits were accused of abusing EU citizens rights on residency in the UK yet about five million settlement applications that came from England, just over quarter of a million from Scotland and about 92,000 each from Wales and Northern Ireland have been mostly been sorted yet Portugal, Spain, Greece and others continue to struggle.. in Portugals case less than 39,000..
In all 27 countries about 1.3 million Brits are scattered around, most of whom are having problems... kinda speaks for itself..

I think you may be reading the wrong web sites.

“Although some EU Settlement Scheme applications may be decided within a month, that does not seem to be the norm. In fact, many applicants can wait over six months and some have faced delays of over a year before their case has been decided. When EU Settlement Scheme waiting times exceed expectations, it can be both stressful and alienating for applicants, particularly if they have spent years living and working in the United Kingdom, or have family and other obligations here. It can also give rise to serious problems where applicants are unable to convince wary employers or landlords of their long-term right to be in the United Kingdom”

This is for EU citizens in the U.K.

“The difficulties facing EU nationals wishing to remain living in the UK have been highlighted in a report published by Migrant Voice on Tuesday (19 November).

49% of applicants said they had found the process difficult, while 35% said they faced complications in the application process. 38% of respondents had been asked to provide further evidence of their residence in the UK beyond their National Insurance Number.

“It’s a slap in the face to pay taxes for 10 years and then find out that the state doesn’t even have your records,” said one respondent.

“These findings are deeply concerning, especially given the vast scale of this scheme and the devastating consequences for those who are failed by it or who do not apply before the deadline: the sudden loss of lawful residence in the UK and all the rights that go with that,” said Nazek Ramadan, director of Migrant Voice, a UK-based NGO.”

Since I have personal knowledge of the process in Greece through my U.K. friends o can say the Greeks expedited the process as best they could and all my friends were granted residence visas in a reasonable timeframe. The U.K. largely needed to expedite Europeans as they were in work and necessary.it getting rather tiring to listen to British still trying to blame the EU for problems almost exclusively of its own making.

Mind you i , by being Irish I have no Need to worry about this stuff in the U.K. or the EU !

Apologies to the OP for the tread drift.
