Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Please - don't dumb us down! ;-)

It is only 6^3 and 24/32 of 6^3 in the smart system! ;-)

Give or take 3/8 of 2^3 ;-)

Everything is give or take where people get happy with 3/8 solutions ;-)

Cheers,
b.

Re: Metric system dumbs us down.

Incredible thread - page upon page of something that to me looks like some kind of religious debate.

Having grown up in 100% metric (indeed, there are 100 percents too!) society it still has been easy for me to accept that there are different ways of measuring things in other countries, just like there are different currencies and languages. When I started sailing I had no trouble accepting nautical miles or the fact that even here in Scandinavia we measure sailboats in feet - but perhaps I should suspect some sort of conspiracy behind all this..?

I believe I will make a cup of coffee, using a heaping teaspoon,a pinch of salt , a smidgen of cinnamon & a dollop of cream, whilst fathoming thru the reams, or should I say tons/tonnes/tuns, of weighty thought expressed in this thread. I may add a shot,or perhaps a jigger,or even a full snort of Screech to aid my deliberations.
After all,an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Indeed - just because you think everyone is after you doesn't mean you're paranoid. After all - they just might be..........................

A few more pages and we'll be close to the truth about Roswell, Area 47 and Who killed JFK.

Or maybe I'll just have a pony of rum and go to sleep..................

Re: Metric system dumbs us down.

I learned from a magazine that powerboaters did like sailboaters.

I learned on cruisers forum that some multihull owners and some monohull owners were offensive and defensive of their choice of boat.

I learned on cruisers forum that there are proponents and opponents of the Imperial System and the Metric System and that some people feel others are wrong for the system they use.

I have very little evidence of any of this from my life experiences and if it weren't for magazines and the internet I wouldn't know these problems existed.

Re: Metric system dumbs us down.

Is there any truth to the rumour (that I am just starting) that Trump is going to impose the metric system on the US as of April 1, 2018? Part of the Make America Great (or is that Grate) movement.

As you can see, Brexit was inevitable! We simply could not bear all that gibberish. We have enough nonsense language of our own kind here. ;-)

Are you talking about a proper pony glass (1/4 pint, 5 oz, 140ml) or one of those poncey little 1oz stemmed shot glasses?

Let me rephrase that:

"Which pony are you talking about, the real man's 5 oz or the poncey 1 oz?"

Re: Metric system dumbs us down.

I must say I have learnt quite a bit about this and that on this thread.

Frinstance I now know where foolscap went and what it means for the Emperor's elephant to cop a cartridge up the Kyber Pass......
