Thumbs up Mexican Fishing Permits

We are an Australian flagged yacht in Puerto Angel heading north to Puerto Vallarta over the next two months. We aren't able to apply for the Mexican Fishing Permit online. Does anyone know where we can purchase the permit in Mexico? Many thanks.

Re: Mexican Fishing Permits

I'm sorry, I don't remember--we got ours at the Mexican consulate before heading south. But, if you PM Zeehag, she's not too far from PV, and she may well know.

Re: Mexican Fishing Permits

We got ours at the CONAPESCA offices in San Diego. I have been told that any Mexican state tourism office can also issue these. I would think most major tourist towns in Mexico will have an office. We were told specifically that in Guaymas Sonora (where we will be soon) you can get fishing permits at the tourism office, but doubt that location is any good for you.

Re: Mexican Fishing Permits

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Steve.

Evidently, you can buy one in Puerto Vallarta at Mr Marlin Fishing Charter's. They offer Mexican Salt-Water Fishing Licenses which can be purchased at their office in the marina. The same holds true for Chico's Dive Shop.

Ask at any fishing tackle shop in any port, they'll know.

Re: Mexican Fishing Permits

ryon,

That's good advice. IIRC, one also to have a license for both the boat and the dinghy.

The licenses I've bought were personal, no mention of which boat. But the boats I've traveled on in Mexican waters were very careful to have a license for everyone onboard, fishing or not.
