Mexican TIP

We're heading back to Baja this fall and the information regarding obtaining a Temporary Import Permit is a bit confusing (9 years back I did not have one and it was not required when we checked in in Cabo- in fact we did not do anything in advance, including tourist cards, prior to arrival).

I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has done this recently. Is it required, and if so, can it be obtained upon arrival (in either Ensenada or Cabo) or does one have to get it in advance online?

Thank you.
