Michigan Use Tax

The only tax I paid was the 6% Michigan sales tax. It sounds like someone is trying to screw you!

You do know that the "use tax" only takes effect if you paid no sales tax or sales tax at a rate less than what currently is in effect for Michigan. If the state in which you bought the boat charges 7% and Michigan charges 7% then you have no tax liability.
