Re: Point me to answers about visiting vessel registration in FL?

I'm not sure going offshore for a day would be legally leaving or not, but I believe you would have to go at least past "territorial waters" which is 12 miles, not 3. I also think you would need to be out a minimum of 24 hours to break the time limit. I think once past territorial waters you are out of any state's jurisdiction just like going across a state line. I'm not a lawyer, but common sense says if I drive from Tennessee to Kentucky for a day and then back to Tennessee the following day, I have not been in Tennessee continuously since I have left for a day. How that applies to Florida marine rules, I'm not sure and does not address this in the rules I have read. Florida courts may have addressed it in some case.

Cruising three miles offshore will not reset the FL registration requirement. To reset the clock you have to go somewhere and be able to show you were there, like a gas receipt from a marina in GA or the Bahamas.

But why go through any contortions at all? It's $100 registration fee or less.

Re: Point me to answers about visiting vessel registration in FL?

Per year registration fees vary by the length of the vessel, as follows:
Class A-1 (vessels less than 12 ft and all motorized canoes): $10.25
Class A-2 (12 ft to 16 ft): $21
Class 1 (16 ft to 26 ft): $33.50
Class 2 (26 ft to 40 ft: $83
Class 3 (40 ft to 65 ft): $132.50
Class 4 (65 ft to 110 ft): $157.50
Class 5 (110 ft or longer): $194.50

OR, if you have an older boat.

Antique Vessel Registration
The following requirements must be met in order to be registered as an antique vessels:

At least 30 years old
Used for non-commercial (recreational) purposes only
Powered by the vessel’s original type of power; engine of same year and model that the vessel had originally.
If your vessel meets the requirements, the Application for Antique Registration Form (link is external) must be submitted to one of our Service Centers. Antique vessels are exempt from an annual registration fee and only pay the service fee of $6.25 annually.

Re: Point me to answers about visiting vessel registration in FL?

The state statute reads " A vessel used more than 90 days in state waters must obtain Florida registration,,,,"
Key word used. What if its just stored? I'm wondering because we came back from the Bahamas in February. Put our boat into storage, and left on another boat. When we get back in November we will be leaving in 3 weeks to leave the country again for over a year.
Our Fl registration renewal is $186.00 for a 38' cat. I haven't seen the renewal yet so I don't know why its so much. Seems pointless just to pay it to leave the state immediately? Its a lot of $ for someone retired on a fixed income .
As a saving grace anyone renewing or registering is entitled to a reduced fee if you have a epirb. In our case I get $68.00 off !!!
Go to the link and scroll down this is great!! http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/...s/0328.72.html

Thanks, all, sounds like our situation would be easily-enough solved, with just the simple registration... if we can do the trip in the first place.
